I stole this from my little bro’s entry but it is pretty timely info. Tonight (Sept 1) is the debut of NBC’s show “Hawaii”. I haven’t seen the show yet but there is a funny story regarding one of the cast members, Aya Sumika (right in photo).
Last year in April ’03, I was on 3rd Street in Santa Monica with a photographer shooting my spread for People Magazine. “BLT” was coming out in 3 days, we were getting great reviews and now I was going to have a tear sheet in a magazine that had a million readers weekly – I was on top of the world. Then in the middle of the shoot, a half-Asian female approaches me with a smile — and I’m thinking, “Oh, she probably recognizes me from the film”. And then she asks, “Aren’t you Felix’s brother?” And I’m thinking, “WHAT?” I mean really. The guy’s 3,000 miles away in New York! Oooh, major diss. You can read all the torrid details here (from my brother’s interpretation, I should note

Moments like that, reel you in. When I would hear other artists, say stuff like…”Yeah, I just shot this movie called ‘The Passion Of The Christ’” — I used to think, “Yeah, duh. Heard a little about it.” But now I know — you never know who’s seen what. So I’m always careful not to be presumptious.
Although now whenever I encounter ”BLT” fans whom I’ve never met before and who’ve obviously seen the film hear me say, “I once did this movie called ‘Better Luck Tomorrow’” — they all look at me like I’m on crack.

didnt ur bro mention something about a groupie?
haha
there’s a show called Hawaii? wow.. whats it about, I wonder…
So what did you think of the movie, Passion of the Christ? BLT was okay, I had to fast forward through some parts of the movie.
Hope Hawaii’s going to be something good with different type of cinematography…I like how Vegas is with some of the fast forward cgi type of work…very interesting touches.
What’s “Better Luck Tomorrow?”
Haha. I thought your brush with “brotherly fame” was totally hilarious! But c’mon, if u weren’t famous and some hot girl comes up to u and recognized you, I think you’d be thanking your brother MUCHO.
haha i saw it on your brother site first hahaha! funny stuff.
Don’t go around saying you’re the star of FOX’s Tru Calling…….not yet !!! LOL HEEHEE…. I saw your spread in People….how awesome is that to be in there…. As Jay Z would say…Parry Shen, this is history in the making !!!!

parry… you really need to read this… it’s hilarious
so- off on a tangent, dont you find it odd that shows that are based in hawaii have little or no Asians/pacific islanders acting on the show? in “hawaii” is there only one asian star? and in “northshore” i watched the first episode only to find the only APIA i saw was the luggage boy. call me an angry minority, but this is ridiculous.

Well, I wouldn’t really say that what Aya said to you was offensive.. at least you got recognized. It’s better than not getting recognized at all, no?
By the way, I know you said you’d let us know when those episodes with you in them would come out — but I’m getting kinda impatient (I love watching Tru Calling anyway) so when are those episodes coming out?
Why does each entry have at least one reference to “BLT”? As long as that happens, it will seem like you reached your height and the rest is a long drawn-out denouement. The Asian community is looking up to you, man. I want to see more big roles for you. Other big roles. Something beyond “BLT”.
Be the male Ming Wa (or something like that). She’s moved beyond “The Joy Luck Club”. There’s an amazing and long career for you ahead and I believe it starts with talking less about “BLT”.
Just my frank opinion, because I admire your work.
