**Edit: I’ll be in Baltimore at John Hopkins University and UMBC this Thursday and Friday respectively. Stop by and say “hi”.
As mentioned in my April 5 entry, I do get asked the question: “How do you get into The Business?” quite a lot. So I just wanted to let those on the East Coast (or whoever has the means to get there) aware that I’ll be one of the invited instructors teaching a week intensive seminar on everything I know at The Buffalo Summer Institute held on the SUNY Buffalo campus July 5-9.
The workshops are open to the general public - www.theworkshops.org – Check out the roster of teachers because they range from other areas of the entertainment business you might be interested in besides acting: Agenting/Management, Producing, Casting, Music, Stand Up Comedy, Directing, TV Show Packaging, Journalism and Writing.
Personally for my class I’ll be covering acting technique, auditioning, marketing/promotion, the business of “The Business” (agents, managers, the money, headshots, etc) and the making of a film.
All the instructors are SUNY Buffalo alumni that are working professionals. It’s a pretty good week-long course in that you’ll also be able to interact with the other industry instructors during scheduled daily breakfasts and nightly events–plus you can sit in on their classes as well if your class’ down time allows.
And whichever class you register for, you’ll have personal time set aside with your instructor to consult and map out your personal career path. It’s a good place to learn and make contacts as well for the long term.
Registration ends June 15. Well worth the money being all inclusive for the class, events and networking - I wish I had something like this when I started out. But it sucks that you’ll have to find housing at a hotel or somewhere if you’re not already from there. I think they have a deal at the Marriott where all the instructors are being housed. But if you’re there, we can hang out for a week at my old stomping grounds.

ehhh kinda far from me, so that sux. Oh wells, have fun on the east coast.
wow that sounds really interesting but to bad i could never attend. come ot my xanga and check out my quick video i made.
do you ever travel to maryland/dc/va area?
that sounds really appealing but i doubt i`d be able to go. i dont think my dad would be up for that … he doesnt even want me to go into any job that has to do with the entertainment business as far as acting and modeling. but you never know…thanks for info though =]
hey– have you ever met Zhang Ziyi? I think she is absolutely stunning… it would be so interesting to hear about the making of that movie. Maybe she can come to Duke and speak sometime, too
She doesn’t have a xanga does she? heheh
a whole week of college? sounds like too much fun

I am glad that Andy Lau had the guts to speak out about the realities of Hollywood and their simplistic perceptions of Asian actors.
Seriously Tom Cruise is the Last Samurai? Christopher Lee as Fu Manchu? Rick Yune, playing a North Korean with a Chinese name in Die Another Day? Hollywood is crazy, just bloody crazy!
This is what you should have addressed to Hollywood, instead of staying in character when addressing the plight of Asian actors in Hollywood:

Sounds like something I’d wanna check out. Too bad it’s in NY.
what about coming to the most Asian campus in the United States? =)
damn, sounds dope. too bad i’m stuck on this rock in the middle of the sea =p wish i could make it to something like that. anyway, have fun… i’ll be waiting for an entry all about it ~_^
Uh, Parry… do one on the West Coast… say Los Angeles? You know you’d have a whole legion of fans and actors breaking into the business that would sign up! Heck, I’ll be the first to sign up on the list!
SUNY Buffalo is different from U of B, right?
Hi Parry,
I met an Asian-American anchorwoman tonight at San Diego’s KGTV (I go to school at UCSD), and she helped me reaffirm my belief that Asian MEN will make it in the public eye one day… hopefully soon. I really hope to change how the public views Asian MEN (versus Asian women), and I thought I’d let you know since you were probably the first Asian MAN in the entertainment/media (TO ME, anyway) that didn’t hold us back like William Hung. (God, I hate seeing him anywhere.)
I’ve also heard from my friend at USC (Caren, Xanga=webster64) that you may potentially be speaking there. People like you and Lee Ann Kim (who I met tonight) are changing the perspective on Asians. Thanks.
>Michael.
P.S. If I provide the connection, UCSD would love to have you here as a speaker as well. We definitely have a substantial Asian population on campus.
aaahhhh come out to the west coast!! such a bigger market here too..
Ok yes…my friend showed me this…and i didnt know if its real or not….but whatever HI!
Sounds like you’re going to have one wild summer! =)
i actually attended a couple of the celebrity scholar series seminars – it was free for me because i already go there. It was fun, but I did not attend ur seminar because I didn’t even know u were there. I do recall bumping into u and i got a glimpse that u looked familiar. I actually remembered that you were that dude from “The New Guy”. It was sweet – i love dorks!
A year ago, I got to meet you, but i highly doubt you remembered me. I had a picture taken with you too. I should probably forward that to your email. well, nice knowing to get an email from you that you joined xanga – i already added you. We have spoken before about my career paths through email. you actually looked at my resume and gave me some pointers. It was sweet at the same time insulting – only because it came from you. But don’t forget, my mother had edited my resume w/o my knowing. It’s a good thing u read it first before i actually sent it out to companies! Whoo! I was so mad at her – i always do things for myself, but no!!! everything has to be done her way because it has to be perfect!
*sigh* asian parents – you’ll never get rid of them even after you have ur own kids!
Thanks again for helping me Parry!
i wish i could make it…but im form minnesota…and im not movin to da east coast till..fall. i’ll be in jersey.
PROPZ. dont forget to prop me back =]’

Glad to know you are giving back to the community. May be after a long time, by building the foundation, there will be plenty of Asian American male actors who can give seminars, and you don’t have to take it up all by yourself. There will be less of that feeling of alone. But then, even at that time, you would still have so much to offer to aspiring actors.
This is my crooked version of a compliment.
Just wanted to say hi and great work with Better Luck Tomorrow. And the dell commericial.

It would be a great thrill and excitment if that was to happen. Anywho, don’t be shy to come by my site and leave me a comment. *blushing*.. ahahh till den.
