I TOLD YA SO!
Man, when I saw this announcement below — it was plain freaky. The deal hasn’t gone through all the way yet, but it if does, it’d be weird because…
I’ve been following Jim Caviezel’s career since 1996 because a co-worker at the boarding school I used to work was his cousin. Jim had not done a lot until his huge break in 1998′s “The Thin Red Line“. And when I saw him, I immediately thought he’d make a great Superman. A good actor, subtle, rugged lean build, clean-cut and most importantly: An unknown — just like when Christopher Reeve was tapped in ’79 to play the role. I kept telling this to people way back then but they had no idea who the hell he was.
A couple of years ago, I bumped into Jim at my gym (Ha! Jim at my gym…um, anyway…). He was a great guy and we talked for a while about acting, etc. He even gave me his acting coach’s digits. But during the whole time I sooo wanted to mention that he would make the PERFECT Superman. And being a comic fan–it was coming from a very good authority. But since he was taking on projects like “The Count of Monte Cristo” and “The Passion Of The Christ” — I figured he’d be more insulted than anything else, so I never brought it up. But hey — whadda know?
Caviezel Poised To Sign Superman Deal
The Passion Of The Christ star Jim Caviezel may be ready to sign a deal to star as Superman in the long-awaited new film Superman Returns. The hunky actor – who movingly portrayed Jesus in Mel Gibson‘s controversial epic – is said to be very close to an agreement with studio Warner Bros. despite his agent’s recent insistence the part had not yet been offered to him. Big name stars such as Jude Law, Josh Hartnett and Brendan Fraser have already been offered, and turned down, the role. However, according to respected comic book author Mark Miller, Caviezel’s participation is all but guaranteed. He writes, “You remember I told you to relax about Superman? That a very, very trusted and experienced director we’d all love was coming over? That everything would be fine? Well, my same good buddy has informed me that Jim Caviezel is officially the new man of steel and what a perfect choice he is. Expect an announcement shortly.”
By the way, you should check him out in “Frequency“ if you haven’t. Also his interrogation scene in “High Crimes” when he’s proclaiming his innocence to Ashley Judd is some of the best acting ever. The movie’s not great but the entire film hinges upon that one scene. Because if you don’t believe him there — the whole whodunit? suspense falls apart. And he pulled it off in spades.

YES!! I’ve finally reached the #1 spot on this comment post! I win, I win!!
Wow, I guess you guys had that mental connection and he took your cool suggestion! Look at you, a real life changer.
Haha.
Dean Cain is still my favorite Superman…
I don’t know if Caveziel can be considered an “unknown” still since he was the lead dude in “The Passion of Mel.”
I have a soft spot for Christopher Reeve and hapa brother Dean Caine was pretty good too.
Actually he’s credited as Jim Caviezel but his “real” name is James Caviezel. Did you know that he made an appearance on The Wonder Years (best show back in the1980′s). He also made a notable TV guest appearance at the 700 Club. Makes me wonder if he’s a Christian? I agree, I loved him in Frequency, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Passion of the Christ and hopefully but surely … Superman.
Which reminds me … I heard that there’s a batman movie coming out.
superman vs. batman :: growing up i loved superman. i wanted to be him and i act like him. he was strong, never afraid, helped the weak, always did good. he put on a show of vulnerability as clark kent but underneath he knew he was the man of steel. as i got older and my world got darker i began to take a liking and likeness to batman. he was all around cool both day and night but dark. he had it all, money, power, and plenty of great boy toys under one spankin bachelor pad. however, both superheroes still had their issues. they had to deal with their own loneliness, fears, fighting wrong, fighting their past and what was lost.
they never needed therapy, recovery programs, counseling or any sorta help because they both lost their parents and other important individuals. they never complained about always being alone or the lack of fellowship and desperately sought out to join some group. so i try to be superman, a child that can overcome the tough and painful daily circumstances of life. i want to look smart, be more successful and more spiritual than i am. i want to help the needy, the weak, be an incredibly strong daughter, sister and friend and love everyone at all times. how grandiose, but what ever happened to humility? Jesus gives grace to the humble and chooses to use the weak so that no one can boast about what they can do.
i have severe limitations. i don’t want to admit them or acknowledge my need for things like rest. i don’t want to admit that that i’m not superman. but i do like saying “i’m batman” from time to time.
We are writing a gospel
A chapter a day
By the deeds we do
And the words we say
Men read what we write,
Whether faithful or true.
Just what is the gospel
According to you?
i thought high crimes was pretty good.
HAHA ! So you were right on with your prediction ! I predict Parry will be the next Tom Cruise !! One day…I will get to say, I TOLD YA SO !!!! =)
Frequency is a good movie, there’s a great song from it by Garth Brooks. Caviezel does an excellent job, and Dennis Quaid wasn’t bad either. Great xanga you have going here, I read it all the time
great prediction! thats awesome man! i love superman and that movie is gonna be awesome. haha guess what? Jim Caviezel is my friend’s cousin.
i like Tom Welling as “Pre-Superman” in Smallville! haha but Dean Cain was a good Superman.. but this guy looks good too.
Hmmm… I never pictured him as Superman before.
i thought the same thing also when he started becoming popular with Passion. He will definetly make a great superman!! but i keep hearing that all these people turned the role down because of some “superman” curse (a la poltergeist). anyhoo, i wish him the best of luck!
Ooooh, that means Jim Caviezel goes to MY gym too! Remember we bumped into each other at the gym a year ago? Anyway, Jim’s my hero (no pun intended)…he’s an amazing actor, and I’m so proud of him for sticking it out in The Passion. He was also great as the homeless guy in Pay it Forward.
Still, I don’t see him as Superman, but if he inks the deal, you can tell say “I told you so” again.
NICE. I loved Frequency.
some people say liken me to Jet Li… well, minus the martial arts ability, good looks, acting ability, boyish charm, and everything else Jet Li has going for him… ummm… yeah…
Having only seen the Kevin Smith script for Superman Returns, I hadn’t realized it was actually a movie that was being worked on.
Yeah Parry, I agree, he’s a good actor no doubt.

up Up and AWAY!

jim at my gym! hahaha : D
doesnt seem he could fill the suit…or is that the reason why Gym is at the Jim? ha ha
I disagree. Can’t really see him as Superman. He doesn’t have the phyiscal presence needed for the Man of Steel or the farm boy values for Clark Kent. Maybe I’m biased but Chris Reeves is the definitive Superman and will never be replaced.
This is almost like what I told my friend about making a new band that features rappers perfoming to rock music (early 90s) and what do we have now? Rock rap…Linkin Park, Korn Ect…boy we should be in the marketing business…wait I already am lol
IT’S THE HANDSOME JESUS!!! hehe, i like him as an actor.
Yea I first saw Jim in “Frequency” wayyyy before “The Passion,” everyone who saw the Passion was wondering who he was and I was like.. oh that’s the guy from Frequency.. I have a knack for remembering faces..
