Dag Nabbit! It happened again!
Yesterday I was at Best Buy and an employee comes up to me and says, “Hey, I know you! You were on… wait. Don’t tell me….” (I wait for 5 seconds).
Then he says, “Well, I know you were on (HBO Series) ”OZ”. I politely smiled and said, “Nope, that’s not me.” “Really? I could swear that was you….”
To which I sighed, reached into my wallet and pulled this out for the upteenth time:
And I said, “You’re thinking about this guy.”
He laughs. “Oh. But you were in…” (I wait for about 7 seconds).
Now this is always the interesting predicament. Do I just be presumptuous and start rattling off my credits until his head nods in recognition? And what if I keep listing off my credits and then he finally says, “Oh, you were in that ‘Harold and Kumar’ movie! (a movie I was not in)”
So I jump out on a limb and say, “‘Better Luck Tomorrow’ “?
He smiles and nods, “Yeah. I kept thinking was it ‘Someday Today’ or ‘Yesterday Will Be Better’ “?
Sigh. I think I should get that photo article of BD laminated or something. It’s starting to get worn out.

I read that Steve Martin has cards printed up for him to sign autographs for. It says something like: ”This is to confirm that you have indeed met Steve Martin and he is as funny and charming as he seems on TV.” I guess he does this so he can give out autographs without having to do the whole “Make it out to Jimmy, your friend Steve” business…
Point being, maybe you oughtta do something similar. Print out cards saying: “I am not BD Wong. I am not on L&O SVU, (etc). My work can be found here (list your imdb.com url). However, I will still be happy to give you my autograph”

i remember one time at Frys I saw Cyrus from the Real World Boston. Except I couldnt identify him at the time. So I guess I must have stood there giving him a weird look bc he gave me a really really dirty look in return.
oh people…i remember one time in class the movie was brought up but someone accidentally called it “better luck next time”. haha

next time, you shouldn’t wait for them to guess, just blurt out, “Perry-da-one-and-only-Shen from BLT, nice to meet you!” shake their hand, walk away…aaaaand scene.
instead of carrying someone else’s credit, why dont you carry a mini poster of BLT in your wallet and show them thats where you are from…
haha…i remember people telling me you had a xanga…i finally found you. i don’t think u’ll remember, but i met you when you came to u of i in urbana-champaign. (the girl who was wary of the drunkard dan driving me home)
i’m sorry you get mistaken for lots of other people. i can’t say it’s the same, but everyone always asks me, “Are you related to Connie Chung?” well…what can u do? it’s kinda weird that you carry an article of BD with you. haha…whatever works!

i’m so glad you can find the humor in that…but seriously it must be hard for you at times…i think you have a certain look that isn’t the typical asian look- whatever the fuck that is…so it’s irritating for me, even as a stranger, to read about people thinking you’re another asian actor who looks nothing like you…i know it’s good to find the humor because sometimes giving a fuck is depressing but the next time someone says something like that you need to set their ass straight. Yeah there’s always going to be racism and stereotypes but i think we should all work at eliminating that crap. apathy can be sweet sometimes but apathy isn’t necessarily a good thing. i hope the next entry i from you about these kinds of situations is about how you set the fuckers straight instead of just venting about it here..trying to find the humor when i know it bothers you.
