  • Asia Street Comedy

I will be in several episodes this season of a new show called “Asia Street Comedy” on The International Channel starting to air this Wed, October 6th

It’s a SNL-esque sketch comedy show with a predominately Asian American cast.  I did about 15 sketches to help them get off the ground and it was just a fun way to pass the summer.

In one sketch, I was a cell phone engineer getting in trouble for creating ring tones that terrified customers, such as ear-piercing screams from a woman.

Another sketch we spoofed Robert Kiyosaki’s successful financial self-help book, ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad”.  However in our version, “Rich Son, Poor Dad“,  it taught the lessons of mooching off your offspring as a retirement opportunity.

And yet another sketch had me in a reality show called, “Buried Alive” where 2 guys see who can last the longest in a coffin underground.  At one point, I do a “confessional cam” and talk smack about the other participant.  Meanwhile his face turns into my confessional cam saying, “Hey, numbnuts!  I’m right here.  I can hear everything you’re saying!”  It’s pretty hilarious stuff.  Joy Bisco (“The Debut“, “General Hospital”) & Bobby Lee (“Mad TV”) also did several sketches.

So if you can get the station, let me know what you think!

  • congrats! sounds cute.

  • sounds hilarious. now if only I can figure out which channel is ICN for me.

  • Hmmm, more segregation in comedy. Well, keep working and best of luck!

  • sounds hilarious

  • excellent.  I get that channel methinks.  I will definetly have my digicable box remind me.  Congrats!  JH

  • RE: moritheil

you may call it segregation, but i would rather say it is not about exclusivity, but about opportunity. it’s like the Chappelle commercial where he addresses his show about showing white folks in a negative light, and he answers back, “i feel there are too many positive images of white folks, i am just balancing things out.”

i’d say this sketch comedy is about represention and not about separation.

  • hehehe..already saw it

  • sounds like one helluva show!

  • I’ll be sure to check ya out !!!  Love Joy Bisco…she’s so pretty.

  • Well, I don’t mean to imply that there is, realistically, much of an alternative, or that it is Parry’s fault. Certainly, to take an example from sports, if not for the all-black baseball leagues, it’s questionable whether or not Jackie Robinson would have gotten his chance to break the color barrier.

Indeed, it is my hope that due to the efforts of Parry and others, Asian American entertainers will have no difficulty in being “mainstream” if they choose to be. I’m not saying they have to be, just that it should be their choice to be “more Asian” or more “mainstream” – not their only option.

  • PS – Thanks for responding.

  • This sounds great!  I don’t think I get the channel though.  Is this the same show where all these people have irrational fears?  Like one person is afraid of “Agh,” and another person is afraid of “I’m sorry?”

  • Nice.

BTW I saw BLT on Sundance last night. It still holds up.

  • too bad i can’t watch it! i have direct tv!
