THE PLAN
So this was my battle plan last Friday when I had 4 auditions from 10am-5:30pm all over Los Angeles in a 40 mile radius.
Four headshots, each image appropriate for the character of each role.
Four resumes, either for theatrical (TV/Film) or Commercial.
Each script all broken down, choices made and memorized — directly under their respective headshot/resume.
Mapquest directions on the bottom left, mapping out the quickest route from one casting office to the other.
Changes of clothing hung in the car for each role, since they were all very different characters.
A packed cooler full of drinks, food and candy to keep my up energy thoughout the day.
Went in, kicked butt on all four of them and definetly left the casting people/producers with good impressions. And after all that and 10 + hours in the car, how many of the roles did I book?
Zero. Ouch.
Now go back out there, ask for more of the same the next week. Repeat for eight years and rinse. Now that my friends, is how you develop a thick skin and pay your dues.

at least you got a lot things on ur resume….i’m still tryin to build mine up….hahaha but yea i agree with you wit how it builds tough skin and paying the dues….it sucks but u can never give up, right?! good luck!

Wow, I didn’t know actors needed different headshots for each resume. I thought they all had that one generic b/w headshot photo. My friend is doing work on ‘Memoirs of a Geisha.’ How come you didn’t try for any roles on that movie?

That is easily the one thing I admire most about actors. Actors have to be willing to put themselves out there and face rejection constantly. I know you have enough experience to know this, but from a director’s standpoint, one of the hardest things to do is say “no” to really talented people. Often the decision is based in things that you have no control over i.e. you are too short, young, skinny, fat, old, pretty, etc. for the part. Keep on fighting. I know you are destined for more.

if its any consolation, you got really gorgeous thick skin. and of course, better things will come along. they will. you could like daniel day lewis, dont work too often, but do really good work when he does.
