  • The OSU Posse

I’m back from the Oregon State University gig and had a great time.  When I first went to check out the room it was in the strangest configuration — like a long lower case “l” with me speaking and doing the workshop at one extreme end of it.

But with a few adjustments of about 15 dinner tables, I wound up arranging the workshop portion in the center of the room — like a theater in the round so all could see.

Here was a nice write up on the evening from the organization’s President and their photographer(s) were extremely detailed in documenting the event — I think if you printed out all the pictures, it would make a pretty darn accurate flip book of the entire event from beginning to end (my intro, the “BLT” documentary, workshop, speech and autograph/photo session).  Thanks for having me OSU and bookending the 04′-05′ tour!

Also, here are the exact theatres for “Saving Face” this weekend in NY and LA and June 3rd in SF and Boston:

NEW YORK:  opens the weekend of MAY 27 at the ANGELIKA
(in Soho) and the AMC 25 (on 42nd Street)

LOS ANGELES:  opens the weekend of MAY 27 at the SUNSET LAEMMLE 5,
the WESTSIDE PAVILION, PLAYHOUSE (Pasadena), TOWN
CENTER (Encino), and the SOUTH COAST VILLAGE (Costa Mesa)

SF BAY AREA: opens the weekend of JUNE 3 at the
Landmark EMBARCADERO,  the UA STONESTOWN Twin, the Landmark SHATTUCK (Berkeley), PALO ALTO  SQUARE, CENTURY 5 (Pleasant Hill), SANTANA ROW (San Jose) and MARIN/ SAUSALITO.

BOSTON: opens the weekend of JUNE 3 at the Kendall Square cinemas.  (tentative)

  • Looks like fun, coming to Richmond, VA?

  • i live right next to that costa mesa theater, maybe i’ll check it out.

  • ugh, no love for Philly at all. I wanna check out the movie!

  • whoa! The movie’s playing 15 minutes away from me. Guess I’ll have to go check it out. Now that the film is done shooting and college speaking is over…perhaps some R&R is scheduled in your agenda?

  • SAving FACE!!!!!

  • wow, you’re that guy from blt. awesome.

  • btw..my best friend young lee loves your movies lol.

  • i love Better Luck Tomorrow. btw, my best friend Darren Mar loves your movie too

  • I can’t wait til Saving Face comes out! I just wanted to say THANKS for letting us know about it. Otherwise, I don’t think I would’ve known that it existed at all.

  • South Coast Village definitely shows a unique collection of movies-it’s right near ucirvine. I’ll try and check it out.

  • Whats this with going to the coasts? Come to the center- Kansas!

  • I want to see Saving Face so much!  And of course ‘you’re that guy from blt.’  Loved that one too.  I actually know all the lines from the movie..  :]

  • How cool would it be if we had Asian superheroes in the mainstream like Batman.  Even if it was just in the comic books, how cool would that be?  I wonder why Asian artists like Jim Lee, Jae Lee, Gene Ha and the rest of them don’t incorporate or create Asian superheroes like a Batman.

  • Hi Parry, I’m glad to hear you had a great time at OSU. And the write-up from the President was very nice. I am studying political science and I often feel like it is a big disadvantage to be Asian, but hey… we should be proud of our heritage right? Anyway, I think your speaking engagements are really cool– when are you coming to UC-Berkeley? :P I can’t wait to see “Saving Face” (and it’s playing readily in the Bay Area, awesome). Your wedding pictures were gorgeous!!! (sorry, just caught up with yoru xanga this weekend) I really admire the work you’ve done (especially in “BLT”) and I never really realized how hard it is for Asians to become nationally known.. I think it’s really neat that you’ve been in the Wall Street Journal and yea……. keep up the good work!!!!!!!!! Thanks for having a free xanga so we can keep up with your life! :) (heck you could be an ass and charge people for reading about your life and thoughts but you’re not so that’s great), okay, sorry for the long comment.

  • I just saw “Saving Face” opening night in the Pasadena Laemmle. It took me by surprise at how hilarious and culturally self-deprecating but unabashed the movie was. Thanks for the head’s up!

  • check out my xanga if you have time, i wrote a nice little entry on BLT.

  • looks like fun. i wish i’d been there! when are you coming to vancouver? i know… it has to be organized by us, right? hmm… i’ll work on it but at least come for a visit :)

  • I can’t wait to see “Saving Face” !!
